WTOP Reports Naked Fireman Placed on "Enforced Leave Without Pay"

Remember the controversy surrounding the Columbia Heights fireman who was photographed naked inside the firehouse on the 3400 block of 14th Street?

Well WTOP is reporting that the fireman, who was cooking eggs in the nude, "has been placed on enforced leave and is now the subject of a new investigation".

The main difference between the old investigation and the new investigation, according to WTOP's interview with D.C. Fire Chief Dennis Rubin, is that the man will now be on "enforced leave without pay".

If you are not familiar with the situation, here is the story we ran when it first broke on September 17:

Here is a very bizarre and a somewhat troubling story out of Columbia Heights.

The Importance of Fire Safety

The following story comes to us from Marcus Atkinson, a Communtiy Content Producer on our Oxon Hill Where You Live site.  The Columbia Heights community has experienced some fire issues lately, and Marcus has some good tips about fire safety:

Let's Talk About Sex

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) -- For Howard University freshmen Jasmine Gordon and Andrea Davis their school year started with lots of anticipation and lots of condoms.

"They passed it out during freshman week because I guess they know that's a week where there's a lot of sexual activity going on," said Andrea Davis.

According to a study by Indiana University's Center for Sexual Health, more African American and Hispanic young men are using condoms. Researchers credit HIV/AIDS outreach in those communities.

But Tyree Young credits open discussions with his own friends. "the people I associate with use condoms," he said, "I'm not there with them but as far as our conversations they say they use condoms."

He said talking about S-E-X just isn't as taboo as it used to be. "I'm not ashamed, I'm not ashamed at all," he said.
