Zoo celebrates International Cheetah Day | Pets
WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The Smithsonian's National Zoo is celebrating International Cheetah Day!
Ten genetically valuable cheetah cubs were born at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in November.
On November 12, first-time mother Miti gave birth to a litter of seven cubs. Six of her cubs, five female and one male, survived.
On November 26, experienced mother Ally gave birth to a litter of four cubs. Animal care staff say they have not fully examined Ally's cubs yet.
Both litters are said to be doing well. The Zoo staff is watching the cheetah mothers bond with their cubs via closed-circuit webcams in their enclosures.
