National Pancake Day Means Free Pancakes at IHOP

Tomorrow IHOP is celebrating National Pancake Day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. by giving away one complimentary short stack! In return for the free flapjacks, IHOP hopes customers will consider leaving a little something behind for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other local charities. IHOP raised more than $2.1 million last year, and has a goal of $2.3 million this year. IHOP began its National Pancake Day in 2006, and since then, has raised $5.35 million for local charities and has given away more than 10.1 million buttermilk pancakes. Don't miss out!

Best Quirky Food Spot in D.C.: Fast Gourmet

Best Quirky Food Spot in D.C.: Fast Gourmet

It was a little over a month ago that I was first exposed to Fast Gourmet.  I saw a reader's note on Prince of Petworth's blog about a gourmet sandwich shop hidden inside of a "sketchy gas station" at the corners of 14th and W Streets in Northwest.

I was intrigued, but not yet convinced enough to try it out.  I mean, come on, good food in a gas station?  That's an oxymoron.  I needed more evidence.  So I went on Yelp to read more customer reviews, and what I saw...was astonishing.

Each review was more positive than last.  Each described how bizarre the location was, but also, how delicious the food was.

"Medium Rare" Steakhouse coming to Cleveland Park Next Month...Vegetarians Welcome!

"Medium Rare" Steakhouse coming to Cleveland Park Next Month...Vegetarians Welcome!

After waiting and watching the former Yannis Restaurant at 3500 Connecticut Avenue sit empty for months, a new restaurant is opening up in that spot next month.  While many will miss the Greek food, it certainly will be a welcome sight for Cleveland Park to have its first steak house.

“The only question you'll be asked when you come in is 'How do you like your steak cooked? '" says Mark Bucher, the creator of “Medium Well”.  Bucher is no stranger to the restaurant business and is the guy behind the popular burger chain BGR.

"If all you do is steak frites," says the restaurateur, "you've got to do it well."

The fries at Medium Rare are going to be cut by hand and the meat is going to be prime aged cap of rib eye and a meatless entrée will be available for vegetarians.
